Reports, Program Files, and Photographs 1918-1969 [microform].

This series contains printed items and photographs that document the Caribbean Synod of the United Lutheran Church in America (ULCA), founded in 1952. It also contains some pre-1952 materials that illustrate the histories of the two separate mission fields that combined to form the synod, the Puerto Rico field, established in 1899, and the U.S. Virgin Islands field, established in 1917, incorporating the earlier work of the Lutheran state church in the former Danish West Indies. Both fields had been established by the General Council of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of North America, a ULCA predecessor body. Most of these materials were produced by the missions, or their sponsoring church bodies, in the interest of furthering and promoting their work. These include a constitution and program from the Lutheran Missionary Conference of Puerto Rico; several works on Christian and Lutheran topics in Spanish; programs from anniversary observances at Lutheran churches in Puerto Rican and the U.S. Virgin Islands; and materials documenting the 1952 organization of the Caribbean Synod: minutes from its organizing convention, its constitution, and a copy of The Caribbean Call reporting on the founding of the new synod. Also present are two files of newspaper clippings and a booklet reproducing speeches and reports from an interdenominational "Caribbean Consultation" held in 1957. The materials are separated into four subseries: printed items specific to Puerto Rico, printed items specific to the U.S. Virgin Islands, printed items pertaining to the Caribbean generally, including the ULCA Caribbean Synod material, and photographs.
